Formal Assignment #1: Narrative Project
My first project for my English Composition I is to write a Narrative about a time in my life when someone a negative or positive impact on my life. I will be providing an introduction to my writing project as well as links that helped me with my writing process.
For this project, I chose to write about the time when I went to homecoming with a group of first. I started writing about this in my Composing a past scene blog. In the blog, I focused on how peer pressure made me make a bad decision. The first part of my writing process was actually the hardest part for me. In blog 3: Composing a Present Scene, I had to write about something that is going on in my life at the moment. It was really hard for me to do that because my life is pretty boring. That’s what I thought until I had start paying more attention to my life. I had to rewrite that blog because I was not thinking deep enough. The first time I wrote that blog, I wrote about a time in my life that was not present. If was still very significant for me to write about though and it also has a lot to do with my narrative. For this blog, I used the texts What is Creative Nonfiction? (Lee Gutkind) and Making Scenes in Memoir (Lee Martin). The second part of my writing process was easier because I understood writing about my present life better. In blog 4: Composing a Present Scene with Dialogue and Symbolism, I wrote about my family and our discussion at the table. Learning how use symbolism in my writing will help with my narrative. For this blog, I used the text Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway. The third blog that helped me with my writing process is blog 5: Composing a Past Scene. This is the main focus and what my Narrative project will be about. With the help of peers, I picked up on a lot of mistakes I make in my writing. For this blog, I used the text What You Don’t Know by Lulu Wang.
I also thought it would be a great idea to change the title of my second draft because I changed my decision and the outcome.
